Bio

Born to a proud family of educators, Georgia Dunn Belk's unquenchable thirst for community service simply feels like Home.

Earning an undergraduate degree in Art History from Tulane University, and a Master of Government Administration from the University of Pennsylvania, Georgia's career in government quickly took off.

At age 24, Georgia's talent and drive landed her in Washington, D.C. working for US Congressman Fred Grandy as one of the youngest press secretaries on Capitol Hill. Georgia continued to make a name for herself in government, holding positions as Assistant Chief of Staff for San Francisco Mayor Frank Jordan and subsequently Mayor Willie Brown, where she created and managed marketing programs that generated revenue for the city.

Georgia's near decade of excellence in government and public service drew attention from the private sector, where she was recruited by the banking industry to work in an executive capacity for Bank of America. It was Georgia's expertise in navigating the areas of Global and Investment Banking that eventually lured her to Charlotte in 2001, where she wasted no time locating fertile ground in which to plant her public service roots.

Relishing the privilege of calling the "Queen City" Home, Georgia has since worked closely with the Foundation for the Carolinas, while simultaneously finding deep satisfaction in her commitments to the Myers Park Baptist Choir, the Arts and Science Council, and assisting the homeless at Room at the Inn.

Despite over 30 years of tirelessly serving the community, the wave of change pervasive in the 2008 General Election has left Georgia energized and ready for more. So much so that she's taking her vast experience and passion for government to launch her bid for a 2009 at-large seat on the Charlotte City Council. Running on a platform of "Public Safety First", Georgia is determined to lower the city's crime rate, help boost the local economy and make Charlotte a place where all citizens thrive.

Georgia Dunn Belk's motivation stems from an overall desire to make life better for present and future generations ...period!
